SUMMARY
Information
Systems Specialist focusing on creating and supporting successful data
warehousing and BI solutions. I have a passion for finding the “why” behind
problems and potential solutions.
I am currently
developing a set of data quality verification and checking routines using the
ETL product provided by Pentaho solutions.
I have
designed and guided the implementation of a complex data warehouse solution,
which involved interaction with all levels of the organization and a variety
of skill levels of staff. We used the precursor of SSIS, DTS. I
did the design from inception to implementation. The ETL processes were
challenging due to the fact that the sources for the data warehouse were 20
different computer systems.
I have worked
on and maintained systems using Oracle and Microsoft SQL server.
Many of the
systems I worked with during the past 12 years were based on financial
transactions. I have designed databases for both OLTP and OLAP
solutions.
I have worked
with and acted as the go between technical and functional team members.
I have led
teams where the solutions was taken from concept to maintenance and support
after implementation, this included activities such as design, development,
testing, training and implementation.
I have done
presentations at executive level, customer and internal colleague
events. I have a passion for sharing what I have learned through any
medium possible.
I have done
groundbreaking work in system design, maintenance and operations.
During the past 12 years I have constantly worked with confidential
data. Other relevant skills include:

Create a
model and base design for a data warehouse. The model was used to create
a data warehouse which uses automated procedures to extract and transform
data from a mainframe system to a SQL server based data warehouse.
I did the original design and then handed the documentation to a
different team who implemented the design and made the data warehouse
operational.
|
The use of
the information captured in the data warehouse allows the State to
improve internal procedures and thus to offer a better service to their
client

Designed,
implemented and supported a data warehouse which collected information
from 20 different agencies, which included the Department of Health, into
a single data warehouse. The data warehouse process transforms the
incoming data to a standard format which is then fed to a secondary
process which determines if the system already know about this person, if
not then a new entry is created, if already known then the existing data
is updated. I led a team of on average, 4 people to bring this
solution to completion.
|
This data
warehouse is used to determine potential future needs of the clients of
the services of the Department of Social Services (DSS) in
Vermont. The DSS then repositions staff to more effectively assist
the clients

System
Architect
·
Analyzed
existing systems to create high level design documents for vendors to
respond to request for proposals.
·
Analyzed
published request for proposals to create proposals for new and or modified
systems. The win rate for these proposals was over 80%.
·
Analyzed
old mainframe systems and developed plans for getting funding and improving
the system to modern day standards.
·
Assisted
in developing plans to be submitted to the Federal Government for funding
to create a modernized system.
o Led a team of technical and functional staff to
accomplish the above product.
·
Implemented
the first interface between the mainframe and server or PC based systems in
Vermont. This system is still in place currently
·
Designed,
developed and implemented an automated document generation, routing and
printing system. Integrated mainframe and server products.
Savings to the client, average 2 hours per day per worker.

Architected,
developed and implemented a document generation system. Prior to
the system being implemented the workers had to wait for overnight
printing of documents which needed to be delivered to clients to inform
them of the services and determination of services for which they
qualified. The solution had to extract data from the mainframe
system when a document was requested, assemble a document based on what
was needed and then determine if that document needs to be printed at the
worker to allow them to give the document to client, or whether to queue
it for overnight printing back on the mainframe. I led a team of 5
people to achieve this goal.
|
When this
solution was implemented, the workers were able to provide the clients of
the State with a much higher quicker response to their inquiries.
It also provided a paper saving because the documents were customized to
the client and not a standard form letter with a lot of “useless”
information

The State
needed to modernize and modify their Child Support system to conform to
Federal guideline and thus avoid penalties. I was tasked to take
the lead on the technical analysis of the existing system and to write
the technical portion of the proposal to the State of how the goals could
be achieved. I was then the technical advisor to the writing of the
request for proposal which was submitted to the Federal Office of Child
Support Enforcement (OCSE). After the contract was awarded I was
the technical QA lead for the State who oversaw the development effort of
the contractor who won the bid.
|
The
solution was successfully implemented and is allowing the State of New
Jersey to operate a model Child Support system and are not paying any
penalties to the Feds for a non-conforming system

· Implemented an automated system documentation tool on a
mainframe system. Saving the development team well over 3 hours for
each medium sized change to the application
· Designed, coded and assisted with testing an EFT
system. Saved the client more than $500,000 per annum and the clients
of the client received their money more than a week early

The cost
of sending payments per check was getting prohibitive and some of the
checks were never cashed, which in turn led to “dead” money. I
suggested an EFT solution, which was accepted.
|
The
clients were happy, because the money was available quicker and the State
had better control of their money. Annual savings approximately
$500,000.
